CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Hailey Surace won the pole vault with a career-best mark of 4.05m (13' 3.5") leading the MIT women's track and field team on Saturday at the Harvard Invitational. Surace's effort moves her into second on the NCAA Division III national qualifying list.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 60m: Akosua Essah was 53rd overall in 8.55.
- 60m Hurdles: Rookie Jadyn Grant tallied a PR in 9.35 to earn a 31st place finish. Classmate Rachel Chen was 43rd with a PR of 9.71.
- 200m: Grant took 47th to lead MIT's competitors in the event. Grant had a PR of 27:01. Shannon Cordle was 69th in 29.35 and Essah recorded a PR of 29.56 to finish 72nd.
- 3000m: Katherine Pagorek was 19th with a PR of 10:46.24.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump (Open): MIT dominated the high jump, placing three competitors in the top 10, with Amalia Toutziaridi leading the way in third (1.60m), Katie Kempff taking fifth (1.55m on her first attempt) and Paige Dzenutis finishing 8th (1.55m on her second attempt).
- Pole Vault (Championship): Surace cleared 3.95m and 4.05m on her first attempt to win. She took aim at 4.15m but did not clear the bar. Surace, Elise Doyle and Tessa Baker all registered NED3 qualifying marks. Doyle was 10th clearing 3.65m (11' 11.75") and Baker was 13th clearing 3.50m (11' 5.75").
- Long Jump (Open): Lauren Chi was the top finisher for the Engineers with matching efforts of 5.03m (16'6") on both her second and third attempt. She finished 16th overall, four spots ahead of Dzenutis in 20th thanks to her jump of 4.97m (16' 3.75").
- Triple Jump (Championship): Nony Otu Ugwu took ninth with a jump of 11.26m (36' 11.5") on her first attempt, earning an automatic NED3 qualifying mark.
- Triple Jump (Open): Katie Kempff secured ninth place with a jump of 10.76m (35' 3.75").
- Shot Put (Open): Lily Siegelman took sixth with a throw of 11.96m (39'3") on her first attempt.
- Weight Throw (Open): Macy Brennan took home third place with a throw of 15.38m (50 '5.50") on her third attempt. Brennan advanced to the final, but her third attempt was her top effort on the day, a PR and an NED3 qualifying mark.
- Weight Throw (Championship): Lilia Ould-Hammou was second among Division III competitors and 7th overall with a PR of 16.18m (53'1") on her second attempt. At the time the mark put Ould-Hammou in 6th, but she would go on to place seventh.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Grant's time in the 60m Hurdles was an automatic qualifier for the NED3 championships.
- Toutziaridi had an automatic NED3 qualifier in the high jump.
- Siegelman's effort in the shot was also an NED3 qualifying mark.
