Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Defeats Springfield, 3-0

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The MIT men's soccer team earned its first NEWMAC win of the year, defeating Springfield 3-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon on Brock-Affleck Field. 
 
THE BASICS: 

  • Score: MIT 3, Springfield 0 
  • Records: MIT (3-3-3 Overall, 1-0-1 NEWAMC), Springfield (3-6-1 Overall, 1-1-0 NEWMAC) 

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

  • Dilin Meloni set up Shikhar Motupally early in the first half as Motupally notched his first goal of the season at the 9:30 mark. 
  • Motupally and Charles Lai then set up Eric Lohse who buried his shot into the goal at 42:03 to increase the Engineer lead to 2-0. 
  • Raphael Eccher wrapped up the scoring with his goal at 83:52. 
  • The Pride were unable to take advantage of some late fouls and a shot by Jackson Dillon sailed wide near the end of the match. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • All three goal scorers for MIT notched their first goals of the season.  
  • Eccher scored his first collegiate goal. Motupally scored the sixth game-winning goal of his career. 
  • Nicolas Santos-Shin made five saves to earn his first career shutout as he improves to 2-2-1 on the season. 

UP NEXT: 

  • The Engineers will continue NEWMAC play with a mid-week game against Coast Guard on Wednesday, October 7 at 6:00 PM on Roberts Field. The Pride will host Hartford on Tuesday, October 6 at 7:00 PM.
