CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Amalia Christina Toutziaridi set a new program indoor record in the high jump and Elise Doyle moved up the national rankings in the pole vault while Katie Kempff earned two of the Engineer's nine top 10 finishes as the No. 4 MIT women's track and field team competed on Friday at Harvard's Crimson Open at Gordon Indoor Track.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 60m: Shannon Cordle and Isabell Luo finished 39th and 41st, respectively. Cordle posted a time of 8.41 seconds while Luo finished with a PR of 8.43 seconds.
- 200m: Jadyn Grant's season-best time of 26.75 helped her finish 34th overall. Paige Dzenutis added a 39th place finish (27.54) and Akosua Essah was 44th (29.33), both times were PRs.
- 60m Hurdles: Grant added another PR and an NED3 automatic qualifying time in the 60m Hurdles, taking 19th in 9.27. Rachel Chen was 21st for MIT in 9.63.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Toutziaridi and senior Katie Kempff each registered NED3 automatic qualifiers in the high jump, as Toutziaridi's PR and program record put her on track to qualify for indoor nationals. Toutziaridi cleared 1.69m (5' 6.5") on her third attempt at the bar to finish fifth. Kempff cleared 1.60m (5' 3") to claim 14th.
- Pole Vault: Elise Doyle and Hailey Surace each cleared 3.68m (12' 0.75") to finish in 6th and 7th respectively.
- Long Jump: Kempff set the MIT standard in the long jump, claiming third place with a mark of 5.22m on her second attempt in the final round. Lauren Chi also finished inside the top ten, taking sixth with a jump of 5.13m (16' 10"). Paige Dzenutiswas 10th (4.87m).
- Triple Jump: Kempff added another top 10 finish in the triple jump, taking ninth with a jump of 10.76m (35' 3.75').
- Shot Put: Lily Siegelman and Lilia Ould-Hammou finished 11th and 14th to lead MIT in the shot. Siegelman's best effort came on her fourth throw as a toss of 11.19m (36; 8.5") helped her claim ninth. Ould-Hammou was 11th with a throw of 11.02m (36' 2"). Amelia Bronhard-Yates added an effort of 10.62m (34' 10.25") in 14th.
- Weight Throw: A week after recording a new PR, Macy Brennan earned fifth with a throw of 14.94m (49' 0.25"). Ould-Hammou's mark was just shy of Brennan's as she took 6th (14.74m).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Toutziaridi is now sixth nationally and first in the region in the high jump.
- Doyle is 24th in the pole vault as MIT continues to hold four of the top 29 qualifying marks in the nation. The Engineers have four of the top five marks in the region, with Doyle now ranking fourth.
- Bronhard-Yates moved into the top 20 in the region in the Shot Put.
- Grant is top 10 regionally in the 60H and top 40 in the 200m.
