BOSTON/MEDFORD, Mass. — Rujuta Sane in the 5000m and Kate Sanderson in the 3000m each set new program records as the No. 4 MIT women's track and field team competed on Saturday at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center and at the Tufts Cupid Challenge at Gantcher Field House.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 400m (BU): Shreya Kalyan's 57.82 was an NED3 automatic qualifier and 26th overall.
- 800m (BU): Krystal Montgomery ran a season-best 2:11.64 to finish 39th with an automatic NED3 qualifying mark.
- Mile (BU): Jessica Meza was 128th in 4:59.39 to earn an automatic NED3 qualifying time. She was one of six Engineers in the event as Heather Jensen was 161st (5:05.28) and Jordan Lacsamana was 175th (5:07.06) to lead MIT.
- 3000m (BU): Sanderson's PR of 9:30.49 set a new program standard at MIT. She was 57th overall. Liv Girand added a 115th place finish in 9:47.98 as both runners tallied NED3 qualifying marks.
- 5000m: Sane's PR of 16:26.77 was 54th overall, a new MIT program record and an NED3 automatic qualifier.
- 4 x 400m Relay (BU): Madeline Hon, Shreya Kalyan, Nandini Warrier, Krystal Montgomery combined to take 14th in 3:50.11.
- 200m (Tufts): JoJo Miller cruised to victory in 26.04 at the Tufts Cupid Challenge.
- 5000m (Tufts): Ava Hartman and Katherine Pagorek each recorded top ten time at Tufts. Hartman was 5th in 18:01.94. Pagorek established a collegiate PR in 18:27.89 to take 8th.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:

Weight Throw (BU): Lilia Ould-Hammou continued her impressive indoor campaign with a tenth place finish, registering a throw of 15.87m (52'1") on her third attempt to earn an automatic NED3 spot. Macy Brennan was 13th with a throw of 15.66m on her last attempt, also an automatic NED3 mark.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Sane took over the top spot in the Division III 5000m rankings and 13th in Division III history.
- Sanderson is second on the current national qualifying list in the 3000m on the year and 16th all-time. Paced by Sanderson, MIT has the top four times in the region in the event.
- Sane broke Sanderson's previous 5000m program record of 16:27.28.
- Girand is 28th on the national qualifying list in the 3000m as MIT now has four runners in the top 28.
- Montgomery moved to 6th on the national qualifying list in the 800m. She has the top time in the region.
- Meza jumped inside the 50 in the mile at 48th nationally and is currently fifth in the region.
- The Engineers 4 x 400m relay is 14th nationally.
