BOSTON, Mass. — Krystal Montgomery set a program and meet record to win the 800m title as the No. 4 MIT women's track and field team finished third at the 2026 New England Division III (NED3) Indoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday at The TRACK at New Balance.
Montgomery, Lilia Ould-Hammou and the distance medley relay team of Jessica Meza, JoJo Miller, Erin Hovendon, and Rujuta Sane, each won NED3 titles for the Engineers, and MIT's 4 x 400m Relay set a program record, as MIT finished the meet with 78.5 points. Tufts (108 points) edged Williams (104 points) to claim the overall women's title.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 200m: Miller was 17th in 26.09.
- 400m: MIT had a pair of personal records in the event, as Shreya Kalyan took 8th with a PR of 57.20 and Madeline Hon was 13th with a PR 58.07. Kalyan's effort earned MIT a point.
- 800m: Montgomery set the standard in the 800m, setting the meet record in 2:10.53 to gain ten points for MIT.
- 1000m: MIT owned three of the top 12 times in the field, with Meza finishing fourth in 2:57.40 and Jordan Lacsamana claiming sixth in 2:59.02 to earn MIT eight total points. Hovendon was 12th in 3:02.98. Meza and Lacsamana each set new PRs.
- Miles: Liv Girand ran to a fifth-place finish in 4:58.47, leading four MIT finishers in the top 13. Lacsamana added another PR in 5:01.59 to finish 8th. Girand and Lacsamana earned MIT five points. Kate Sanderson added a 10th place finish (5:02.62) and Megan Diulus was 13th (5:08.71).
- 3000m: Lexi Fernandez earned MIT three points with a 6th place finish in 9:55.09. Heather Jensen added a ninth-place time of 10:03.57.
- 5000m: Ava Hartman was 16th (18:14.64) and Katherine Pagorek was 17th (18:25.85). Pagorek's time was a PR.
- 60m Hurdles: Jadyn Grant was 13th in 9.24.
- 4 x 400m Relay: Hon, Montgomery, Nandini Warrier and Kalyan combined for a time of 3:47.56, setting a new MIT 4 x 4 program record with a runner-up finish at the meet. The time netted MIT eight points in the event.
- 4 x 800m: The MIT 4 x 8 of Sophie Cheung, Kate Friedman, Diulus and Courtney McCracken was eighth, picking up a point in 9:36.99.
- Distance Medley Relay: The DMR impressed in 11:56.96, winning the NED3 title and 10 points while setting a new MIT program record.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Amalia Toutziaridi was 6th, clearing 1.58m (5' 2.25") to earn MIT 2.5 points. Katie Kempff added a 12th place finish by clearing 1.53m.
- Pole Vault: MIT flexed its depth as it has throughout the indoor season, with Katelyn Howard and Hailey Surace both clearing 3.90m (12' 9.5") to finish second and third respectively. Tessa Baker was fifth (3.70m) and Elise Doyle was seventh (3.60m).
- Triple Jump: Lauren Chi was 13th with a jump of 10.66m (34' 11.75").
- Shot Put: Lily Siegelman took 14th with a mark of 11.30m (37'1").
- Weight Throw: Ould-Hammou established a new PR while winning the event with a throw of 16.20m (53' 1.75"). Her efforts on the day also included a mark of 16.10m before she eclipsed that on her final attempt to take home 10 points. Macy Brennan was ninth with a throw of 14.65m (48' 0.75").
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Montgomery is 4th on the national list in the 800m.
- The 4 x 400m Relay jumped up to 10th on the national qualifying list.
- Sunday's winning time in the DMR now gives MIT two DMRs with times in the top 22 nationally.
- Howard moved to 12th and Baker jumped to 35th on the national list in the pole vault. MIT has four competitors in the top 35 nationally in the event.
- Kalyan is now 44th nationally in the 400m.
- Ould-Hammou is 49th nationally in the weight throw after Sunday.
