Clermont, FL. – MIT softball head coach Madison Trotman earned her 100th career victory in the Engineers 4-3 win over Wisconsin-La Crosse to open the day, and the team followed with a commanding 19-0 win over Salem St. in the second game in the team's opening action on their spring break trip.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. University of Wisconsin-La Crosse:
- MIT jumped out to a 2-0 lead on singles from Ava Ladd and Arianna Kumar.
- Brooke Howard cut the MIT lead in half with a single to center, but the Engineers responded in the bottom of the frame on a single from Julia Mattiace that made it 3-1.
- Kumar extended the MIT lead to three with a double to center in the fifth that plated Maggie Feng.
- UWL looked to rally in their last at-bats with Howard reaching to lead off the frame. She then came around to score on a single from Kasey Brouchoud. They then scored on a wild pitch to cut the lead to one but Sharona Huang got the final out to secure the win for MIT.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Huang tossed the first complete game of her career to move to 2-0. She gave up three runs on four hits.
- Kumar and Lauren Sundquist led the way with two hits each.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. Salem State University:
- A seven-run top of the first put the game in hand for MIT. Sundquist led the way with a two-RBI single.
- MIT tacked on six more in the second. Pearl Mitchell led the way with a two-RBI single from Pearl Mitchell while Delaney Benevides, Feng, and Ava Ladd also tallied RBI hits.
- The Engineers put up three runs in both the third and fourth innings to secure the 19-0 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Benevides led the way with four RBI in the game. Feng and Ellie Hasegawa knocked in three runs in the contest.
- Nicole Johnston went 4-4 in the game while Sundqusit added three hits in the game. Overall, the Engineers outhit Salem St., 19-1.
- Sarah Blackett recorded her second win on the year, allowing just one hit in five innings with a career-high 10 strikeouts.
UP NEXT:
- The Engineers will take on Amherst tomorrow, Saturday March 21 at 9:00 AM followed by a 12:30 PM contest against the University of Chicago in Clermont, Fla.
