MEDFORD, Mass. — Lilia Ould-Hammou took first in the shot put and Macy Brennan captured the discus title, while Katie Kempff moved inside the top 25 nationally in the triple jump as the No. 11 MIT women's track and field team competed on Friday and Saturday at the Tufts Invitational.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events:
- 100m: JoJo Miller led the Engineers with a sixth-place finish in 12.58, earning a New England DIII (NE DIII) qualifying time.
- 200m: Neva Miller placed 19th overall with a personal record (PR) time of 27.01.
- 100m Hurdles: Jadyn Grant recorded a fifth-place finish, crossing the line in 16.14. Rachel Chen also tallied a PR in 17.14.
- 4 x 100m Relay: Grant, Shannon Cordle, Neva Miller, and JoJo Miller finished fifth with a time of 49.81.
TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events:
- High Jump: Amalia Toutziaridi finished second, clearing 1.62 meters (5'3.75") to record a NE DIII qualifying time. Katherine Kempff placed third at 1.58 meters (5'2.25"), also qualifying for NE DIII.
- Pole Vault: Elise Doyle, Hailey Surace, and Katelyn Howard all cleared 3.60 meters (11'9.75"), as each reached the NE DIII qualifying height.
- Triple Jump: Katie Kempff added a fourth-place finish with a leap of 11.41 meters (37'5.25"), a NE DIII mark.
- Shot Put: Lilia Ould-Hammou won the event with a throw of 12.15 meters (39'10.5"), a New England qualifier, while Lily Siegelman finished third at 11.52 meters (37'9.5"), also an NE DIII qualifier.
- Discus: Macy Brennan captured first place with a mark of 41.31 meters (135'6"), qualifying for NE DIII, while Olivia Carpenter placed third (39.26m) and Lily Siegelman finished sixth (36.93m), both also meeting the NE DIII standard.
- Hammer Throw: Brennan led MIT with a fourth-place finish at 48.40 meters (158'9"), followed by Siegelman in fifth (47.02m) and Ould-Hammou in sixth (45.40m), all NE DIII qualifiers.
- Javelin: Amelia Bronhard-Yates placed fourth with a throw of 38.80 meters (127'3"), meeting the NE DIII standard.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Surace is now 30th on the national list in the pole vault with her mark of 3.60m. Doyle and Howard are already tied for 16th nationally thanks to a height of 3.70m at the Sam Howell Invitational on April 4. All three rank in the top five in the region.
- Kempff moved to 25th nationally and fifth regionally in the triple jump.
- Brennan is now inside the top 50 in both the discus and the hammer. She is second regionally in the discus and fourth in the hammer.
- Bronhard-Yates is 39th nationally in the javelin. MIT has four competitors ranked in the top ten in the region in the event.
- JoJo MIller's 100m time was the 13th best in the region this season.
