CAMBRIDGE, Mass. — Shreya Kalyan, Liv Girand, Lexi Fernandez, and Hailey Surace each posted season-best marks to move up the national leaderboard as the No. 11 MIT women's track and field team hosted the MIT Final Qualifier on the final day of the 2026 regular season on a soggy Thursday afternoon at Sherie and Don (1961) Morrison Track.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS – Track Events:
- 100 Meters: JoJo Miller led MIT in the preliminaries with a time of 12.74, followed by Rachel Chen (13.07), Neva Miller (13.30), Akosua Essah (13.41), and Shannon Cordle (13.79).
- 200 Meters: Maddy Hon recorded a fifth-place finish in 25.74.
- 400 Meters: Kalyan captured first place with a PR of 55.08, while Krystal Montgomery placed second (57.09) and Nandini Warrier finished sixth with a PR of 58.86.
- 800 Meters: Erin Hovendon finished seventh with a time of 2:15.27.
- 1500 Meters: Fernandez won the event in 4:27.22, followed by Jessica Meza (third, 4:35.26), Jordan Lacsamana (fourth, 4:35.84), Heather Jensen (fifth, 4:39.29), and Sarah Hopp (10th, 4:50.75). All five MIT runners recorded PRs.
- 5000 Meters: Megan Diulus placed third with a PR of 17:48.43.
- 100 Hurdles: Jadyn Grant led MIT in the preliminaries with a time of 16.01, while Rachel Chen followed in 16.73.
- 3000 Steeplechase: Girand earned a runner-up finish with a PR of 10:39.08, while Katherine Pagorek placed seventh in 11:43.34.
- 4x100 Relay: The MIT quartet of Grant, Cordle, Neva Miller, and JoJo Miller captured first place with a time of 50.29.
- 4x400 Relay: MIT's team of Sofie Howard, Erin Hovendon, Lacsamana, and Meza won the event in 4:09.11.
TOP PERFORMERS – Field Events:
- High Jump: Katie Kempff and Amalia Christina Toutziaridi tied for third place, each clearing 1.61 meters (5'3.25"), while Paige Dzenutis cleared 1.56 meters (5'1.25").
- Pole Vault: Surace won the event with a clearance of 3.94 meters (12'11"), while Elise Doyle placed third (3.74m) and Tessa Baker finished fourth (3.59m).
- Long Jump: Paige Dzenutis led MIT with a sixth-place mark of 5.02 meters (16'5.75"), followed by Isabell Luo (seventh, 4.87m) and Cordle (eighth, 4.61m).
- Triple Jump: Kempff recorded a best mark of 10.42 meters (34'2.25").
- Shot Put: Lilia Ould-Hammou posted a throw of 10.80 meters (35'5.25").
- Discus: Ould-Hammou led MIT with a fifth-place throw of 42.54 meters (139'7"), while Macy Brennan finished eighth (39.72m).
- Hammer Throw: Macy Brennan placed third with a mark of 49.24 meters (161'6"), followed by Ould-Hammou in eighth(47.17m).
- Javelin: Olivia Carpenter led the Engineers with a fourth-place throw of 38.34 meters (125'9"), while Amelia Bronhard-Yates finished eighth (34.46m).
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- MIT now has ten student-athletes who rank inside the top 22 in their respective events, while the 4 x 400m relay ranks fifth.
- Kalyan is 12th nationally in the 400 Meters.
- Fernandez is 14th on the national list in the 1500 Meters.
- Girand moved to 19th in the Steeplechase.
- Surace is now 10th in the Pole Vault.
