Men’s Track and Field Collects All-American Honors on Final Day at NCAA Championships

LA CROSSE, Wis. — Jonah Goldstein secured a spot on the podium in the javelin while Jared Steins took sixth and David Whitaker was seventh in the finals of the 800-meter run for the MIT men's track and field team on Saturday and the final day of the 2026 NCAA Division III Track and Field Championships at the Veterans Memorial Field Sports Complex. 

The strong day for MIT, one that also included a tenth-place finish for Sean Huckleberry in the triple jump, helped the Engineers finish tied for 34th in the final team standings. 

THE BASICS:  

  • T-34th of 68 (6 points)

TOP PERFORMERS - Field Events: 

  • Javelin (Final): Goldstein earned MIT its first point of the meet with a throw of 63.47 meters (208' 3") to finish eighth in the javelin. Goldstein's first attempt of the day traveled 62.03 meters (203' 6") and earned him a spot in the finals where his first attempt was once again his best, traveling 63.47 meters. Damitrius Hester of Rowan won the event with an effort of 74.94 meters (245' 10") on his last attempt.  
  • Triple Jump (Final): Huckleberry matched his career-best with a jump of 14.85 meters (48' 8.75") on his third attempt to earn a tenth-place finish. Huckleberry finished with the top mark for competitors that did not advance to the final round of jumps as Keenan Powell of Greenville recorded a mark of 14.86 meters (48' 9") on his final attempt. Aryan Shrivastava of Chicago won the event with a jump of 15.50 (50' 10.25") on his second attempt. 

TOP PERFORMERS - Track Events: 

  • 800 Meters (Finals): Steins and Whitaker finished with nearly identical times in a fast final in the rain that was won by Dickinson's Trevor Richwine with a meet record time of 1:47.39. Steins finished in 1:49.86 and Whitaker had a time of 1:49.87. Both Steins and Whitaker set new personal bests in the event with top-ten times in program history on the biggest stage in Division III.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: 

  • Making his third appearance at outdoor nationals, Goldstein recorded his best finish, earning a spot on the podium for the first time after finishing 15th in 2025 and 21st in 2024. He earned his first All-America first team honor. 
  • Huckleberry was making his second NCAA Championship appearance. He was 14th in the triple jump in 2025. He is now a two-time second team All-American. 
  • Whitaker and Steins each earned All-America first team accolades in the 800 meters after both earned All-America honors in the DMR at the 2026 NCAA indoor championships. Steins has appeared in the DMR three times at the indoor championships but was making his first appearance at the NCAA outdoor championships. Whitaker was also making his outdoor championship debut.
