Williamstown, Mass. — Paced by a win by Madeline Hon, Nandini Warrier, Krystal Montgomery, Shreya Kalyan in the 4 x 400 Meter relay and victories from Liv Girand in the steeplechase and Olivia Carpenter in the javelin, the No. 15 MIT women's track and field team had a strong team performance at the two-day Williams F.I.R.E Meet.
Overall, MIT saw six student-athletes register top 25 national marks with one week remaining before NCAA selections.
THE BASICS:
TOP PERFORMERS – Track Events:
- 100 Meters (Preliminaries): Rachel Chen led MIT with a time of 13.03, while Shannon Cordle (13.71) and Akosua Essah (13.78) also competed.
- 400 Meters: Kalyan earned a runner-up finish with a PR of 55.82, followed by Hon in fourth at 57.28, while Warrier crossed the line in 1:00.93.
- 800 Meters: Montgomery paced the Engineers with a second-place finish and a PR of 2:09.51, while Erin Hovendon (2:17.29), Megan Diulus (2:22.21), and Courtney McCracken (2:27.73) rounded out MIT's efforts.
- 1500 Meters: Lexi Fernandez recorded a second-place finish and a PR in 4:28.75, followed by Jordan Lacsamana (4:41.33), Jessica Meza (4:41.95), and Sarah Hopp's PR (4:53.41).
- 5000 Meters: Kate Sanderson placed second with a time of 16:36.28.
- 10,000 Meters: Heather Jensen finished in 36:45.94 to record a new PR, while Ava Hartman posted a time of 38:11.87.
- 3000 Steeplechase: Liv Girand captured first place in 10:53.52, followed by Katherine Pagorek in 11:46.57.
- 4x400 Relay: The MIT quartet of Hon, Warrier, Montgomery, and Kalyan won the event with a time of 3:44.39.
TOP PERFORMERS – Field Events:
- High Jump: Amalia Christina Toutziaridi placed second, clearing 1.68 meters (5'6"), while Katherine Kempff finished at 1.58 meters and Paige Dzenutis cleared 1.53 meters.
- Pole Vault: Hailey Surace led MIT with a clearance of 3.73 meters (12'2.75"), while Elise Doyle and Katelyn Howard both cleared 3.58 meters, and Tessa Baker added a mark of 3.43 meters. Surace took third as all four finished inside the top ten.
- Long Jump: Katie Kempff posted a best MIT mark of 4.89 meters (16'0.5"), followed closely by Paige Dzenutis at 4.87 meters (15' 11.75"), Rachel Chen at 4.66 meters (15' 3.5"), and Shannon Cordle at 4.49 meters (14' 8.75").
- Shot Put: Lily Siegelman led the Engineers with a throw of 11.02 meters (36'2"), followed by Lilia Ould-Hammou at 9.88 meters (32' 5").
- Discus: Macy Brennan finished fifth with a best throw of 40.19 meters (131'10"), while Lilia Ould-Hammou recordeda mark of 38.04 meters, Olivia Carpenter had a throw of 34.62 meters, and Lily Siegelman recorded a mark of 32.67 meters.
- Hammer Throw: Lilia Ould-Hammou led MIT with a toss of 48.95 meters (160'7"), followed by Macy Brennan (47.17m) and Lily Siegelman (46.75m).
- Javelin: Olivia Carpenter earned first place with a PR of 40.33 meters (132'4"), while Elaine Wang finished a close second with a throw of 40.22 meters, and Amelia Bronhard-Yates added a mark of 36.81 meters.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS – National Qualifying List:
- 400 Meters: Kalyan moved to the NCAA bubble as her time of 55.82 is currently 21st nationally.
- 800 Meters: Montgomery continues to be one of the top competitors in the event and is now 8th nationally.
- 1500 Meters: Fernandez moved to 17 nationally with her PR in the 1500m.
- 5000 Meters: Sanderson moved up to 14th in the 5000 with her time of 16:36.28. She also ranks inside the top ten in the 10,000 meters and will almost certainly be making a remarkable 12th NCAA Championship appearance.
- 4x400m: Hon, Warrier, Montgomery and Kalyan have an NCAA spot in their sights as they now rank fourth nationally in the event.
- High Jump: Toutziaridi cleared 1.68m and is now 12th on the national list in the event.
