CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – For the third year in a row, the Northeast Fencing Conference (NFC) tabbed the MIT men's fencing team for Coaching Staff of the Year accolades. This is the fifth time the program has been honored.
Led by head coach
Jarek Koniusz in his final season with the Engineers, and assisted by
Arpad Horvath,
David Adler,
Shang Qiao, and
Maggie Shealy, MIT produced a 5-0 record in NFC competition while the foil contingent earned top foil squad accolades by producing five victories. In addition, the Engineers amassed six individual postseason awards from the league.
Andy Zhang and
Henry Zhang were named to the Foil All-Star First Team,
Corey Zhao,
Rishi Shiv, and
Alec Zhang were placed on the Epee All-Star Second Team, and
Surya Sakhamuri secured a spot on the Sabre All-Star First Team.
