CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – On the final day of the Bruno Classic at Harvard, the MIT water polo team staged a comeback against Wagner but fell on a late goal. The Engineers were later defeated by No. 11 Pacific.

HOW IT HAPPENED vs. WAGNER:
- The Seahawks held the lead for the majority of the match, as they finished the first quarter with a 5-2 lead. William Ewald and Andras Beleznay got the goals for the Engineers in the quarter.
- MIT chipped away at the lead in the second, outscoring Wagner 4-2. Back-to-back goals from Jake Schweizer and Caspar Lightner made it a one-score game at 7-6 heading into the half.
- Wagner opened the third with a goal, but Rick Lundh scored a 6 on 5 to pull MIT to within one and Schweizer followed with another 6 on 5 score to tie the match at 3:03. Harry Colley converted on a 6 on 5 with 31 seconds left in the third to regain the lead for the Seahawks.
- The fourth saw the teams go back-and-forth with four ties in eight minutes of action. Three-straight goals from MIT gave them a 13-12 lead with Lightner's score at 1:48 giving MIT just its second lead of the day. Wagner responded with a goal from Nadav Carmon to tie the match and with 39 seconds left, Colley scored the game-winner for Wagner.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lightner and Lundh each had a hat trick in the match.
- Kieran Kearns and Ewald led the way with three assists each while Beleznay had a team-leading four steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED vs. No. 11 PACIFIC:
- Pacific raced out to an 8-3 lead after the first. Derek Schaffer, Beleznay, and Armeet Gill had the goals for the Engineers.
- The Tigers held MIT to just a goal from Lundh in the second as they built a 12-4 advantage. Lundh also got the only goal for MIT in the third as Pacific went on to take the 22-5 win.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Lundh had two goals and two steals for MIT while Beleznay, Gill, and Schaffer had the others.
- Kearns led the way with two assists.
UP NEXT:
- MIT is off next weekend but will return to action on Saturday, September 19 when they take on Mercyhurst and Mount St. Mary's at Bucknell. The Engineers open play at 11:30 AM followed by a 5:30 PM contest against the Mount.
