AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 12 MIT women's cross country team opened the 2026 season on Saturday, running against No. 18 Amherst College in the "Battle of Massachusetts" Relays at Book and Plow Farm.

The exhibition event included 3x3k relays, with teams of three runners running 3k legs. In the women's event, there were three relay teams for each school with the lowest score winning, like traditional cross country scoring. MIT defeated Amherst, 10-11.

• Girand had the top overall split in the field, followed by Sydney Remenar (10:20) and Katie Greenwald (10:32) of Amherst.
