At MIT

Amelia Patton enters her seventh season as the Head Coach of the MIT Women’s Lightweight Crew program in the 2026-27 season, and her twentieth year with the program overall. 

Patton and assistant coach Kendall Chase were named the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) National Lightweight Co-Coaching Staff of the Year in 2024-25. The MIT coaching staff shared the honor with the Harvard Radcliffe lightweight coaching staff. 

During her time with the program, the MIT women's lightweights won a pair of medals at the IRA National Championship, as the Varsity 4+ earned national runner-up honors and the 2x claimed bronze medal winning performance in the Women's Lightweight Varsity 2x Grand Final. The silver medal performance in the V4+ was the best result for the lightweight four since a runner-up performance at the 2023 IRA National Championship. MIT's 2024 season also included victories in the singles and pairs events at the Knecht Cup as well as a standout performance at the Dad Vail Regatta that saw MIT win five medals across four events.

In the 2022-23 season, the lightweight 4 earned the silver medal at the IRA National Championship after capturing the championship gold medals in 2021-22. The lightweight 4 earned gold at the Dad Vail Regatta, while the collegiate double and the JV 4 each won silver medals. This marked the fifth gold medal for the Engineers over the last nine seasons at the Dad Vail. Academically, four student-athletes were named to the IRA All-Academic Team, with six rowers earning CRCA Scholar-Athlete accolades.

Before MIT

Prior to coaching the Engineers, Patton spent three years coaching Brookline High School's novice girls, where her boats won state titles in 2004 and 2006. 

Other Experiences

Patton now serves as a Board member for the Crash-B Sprints. Amelia continues to row out of Riverside Boat Club in Cambridge where she serves on the Board of Directors. 

Education

Patton has most recently earned her Master of Education in Sports Management from the University of Texas at Austin in 2024. In 2007, she earned her Master of Science in Applied Anatomy and Physiology from Boston University. Patton received her Bachelor of Arts in Sociology from Duke University in 2003, where she went on to compete as a four-year member of the varsity eight. While at Duke, Patton was named to the All-South region team three times and won the collegiate lightweight title at CRASH-B Sprints.
