Aaron Aaker enters his first year as the MIT senior associate director of athletics for internal operations in 2023-24 as he began his duties on September 18, 2023. Aaker came to MIT from nearby Boston University, where he served as the associate director of athletics for compliance and strategic planning from July 2014 to September 2023.
At BU, Aaker was responsible for all compliance matters and rules education for the department and University staff, as well as the department’s strategic planning and implementation of both short and long-term goals. He also served as a member of the Senior Staff and as a sport administrator for men’s and women’s cross country/track and field, men’s and women’s swimming and diving and women’s tennis.
In addition to his experience at BU, Aaker served as the assistant director of athletics for compliance and eligibility at Boston College from 2007-2014, along with a number of positions at the University of Missouri from 1999-2007.
A cross country and track and field student-athlete at the University of Mary (N.D.), Aaker earned his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education and social & behavioral science in 1993. He went on to earn his Masters in kinesiology from Kansas State in 1995, as well as his Ph. D. in physiology from the University of Missouri in 2001.
