In her first season as head coach, the Engineers finished ninth at the ICSA Women's Fleet Race and 10th at the Women's Team Race. In 2024 the Engineers took 9th at the Women's Fleet Race Championships and 13th at the Open Fleet Race Championships

Young comes to MIT after serving as the head varsity sailing coach at Eckerd College in Florida since 2021, where she recruited top-level student-athletes to the program while planning all travel, equipment operations and the competition schedule. Prior to her time at Eckerd, she worked as the director and head coach for the Davis Island Youth Sailing Foundation in Tampa, Fla. for two years after she was the varsity sailing coach for Stanford in 2019. During that season, the Cardinal placed third at the ICSA Open Fleet Race National Championship.

As a student-athlete, Young graduated with a B.S. from Stanford University in Engineering with a concentration in Product Design in 2007. She was a two-time Women’s Team MVP while being named to the All-America Team and B Division Champion at the 2005 ICSA Women’s National Championship.
