Ella Whinney is in her first season as an assistant coach with the MIT men's and women's cross country teams in 2026.
A four-year standout at Wellesley College, Whinney competed at the NCAA Championships in three of her four years at Wellesley while earning USTFCCCA All-Region honors in four straight seasons for the Blue cross country team. She was a two-time (2023, 2024) NEWMAC Cross Country All-Conference honoree, earning NEWMAC Runner of the Week accolades five times in her career. She also received USTFCCCA and NEWMAC All-Academic honors in each season she was eligible.
On the track, she was a four-time USTFCCCA All-American in the steeplechase, earning first team honors in both 2023 and 2026. She earned USTFCCCA All-Region honors in the steeplechase for four consecutive seasons and Indoor All-Region honors as part of the Blue's Distance Medley Relay squad. She was also a two-time NEWMAC steeplechase champion (2024, 2026), earning USTFCCCA and NEWMAC All-Academic honors in track in each season of eligibility and CSC Academic All-District recognition in both 2024 and 2025.
Whinney graduated from Wellesley in 2026 with a degree in Economics.
