Todd Carroll is in his 14th year as a member of the MIT coaching staff in 2025-26. The 2015 recipient of the New England Intercollegiate Baseball Association’s (NEIBA) Kevin Burr Assistant Coach of the Year Award, he has spent 13 of the past 15 seasons with the Engineers since he was named the MIT pitching coach in January of 2010.
At MIT, his pitching staffs have consistently ranked among the best in Division III; in 2013-14 the Engineers finished among the top-20 in ERA, strikeout-to-walk ratio, WHIP and walks allowed per nine innings. In 2017, senior David Hesslink graduated as the program's all-time leader in victories and was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the MLB Draft. In the 2019 season, senior pitcher Patrick Callahan earned a spot in the NEIBA Senior All-Star Game after pitching the Engineers to the NEWMAC Championship with a pair of complete-game victories in the tournament. In 2025, Mason Estrada was selected in the seventh round of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers after leading Division III in strikeouts per nine innings.
Carroll's brief hiatus from MIT came from 2022-24 when he was a minor League pitching coach with the Seattle Mariners in the Arizona Complex League in Peoria, Ariz. and the Dominican Summer League in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic. He had previously been an assistant coach at UMass-Boston, Salem Community College and Harvard University. At UMass-Boston, Carroll helped the Beacons to their first winning record in school history in 2002. At Salem, both of Carroll’s pitching staffs finished the year with earned run averages under four and in 2007, Harvard’s pitching staff led the Ivy League by nearly a full run.
Carroll has also gained experience through summer baseball, coaching in three of the most prestigious leagues in the country. From 2002-2005 he was the pitching coach of the Mill City All-Americans of the New England Collegiate Baseball League, working under former MIT assistant coach Chip Forrest. In 2007, Carroll served as an assistant coach with the Wareham Gatemen of the Cape Cod Baseball League (CCBL), and in 2008, he served as the Head Coach of the Bennington Bombers of the New York Collegiate League. He returned to the Cape in 2025, spending the summer as the pitching coach for the Falmouth Commodores of the CCBL.
Carroll has also spent a year as an associate scout with the Major League Baseball scouting bureau. A noted clinic instructor, Carroll has worked clinics at Boston College, Harvard and the University of Arizona, among others. Overall, 74 of Carroll’s former players have signed professional contracts.
