Tom Rand was named DAPER Director of Facilities Operations and Events in September 2024. Prior to MIT, Rand was Senior Associate Director of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation at Brandeis University since 2016.Â
At Brandeis, he oversaw all aspects of the institution's indoor and outdoor athletic facilities, including day-to-day operations, all policy development, risk management, staffing, scheduling, cleaning/maintenance, aquatics, event management, strength and conditioning, and student employment while managing the yearly operating budget, membership sales, summer camps, and external rentals.Â
Rand was involved in major facility projects at Brandeis which included renovations to the fieldhouse, soccer field, outdoor tennis courts, varsity weight room, locker rooms, fencing room, and climbing wall. He also assisted in leading an outdoor facilities master plan and an internal gender equity review. Rand's experience with hosting large-scale events includes intercollegiate conference and NCAA championship event management, as well as university-wide events like orientation, commencement, and presidential inaugurations.Â
Rand previously served as Associate Director of Athletics at Brandeis from 2011-2016 and Assistant Director from 2004-2011. Before joining Brandeis, he worked as the Coordinator for Intramural and Club Sports at Keene State College and as the Intramural Sports Coordinator/Evening Facility Manager at the University of Southern Maine. In addition to his duties at Brandeis, Rand has served on committees for the NCAA, ECAC, UAA, NIRSA, and NCAS.

A native of Portland, Maine, Rand earned his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Vermont. He received his M.Ed. from the University of South Florida while working as a graduate assistant in the Campus Recreation department.
