At the Tufts National Qualifying Meet, Sam Engebretson finished second in the weight throw with a personal-best toss of 58 feet, 2.5 inches on his fourth attempt. He followed that with a huge personal-best in the shot put, winning the event with a toss of 54 feet, 8.75 inches to beat his previous mark by an 11-inch margin as he qualified for Nationals as the No. 6 seed.
