The MIT men's fencing team kicked off the 2021-22 season by producing six top-10 finishes at The Big One Invitational hosted by Vassar College on Sunday. First-year Patrick Xinyi Liu (Brookline, Mass.) led the way by winning the foil competition:
 
Patrick Xinyi Liu First Place Pool: 5-0 Round of 64: Won 15-0 vs. Eric Moore (UConn)
Round of 32: Won 15-4 vs. Sebastian Vazquez (Stony Brook)
Round of 16: Won 15-11 vs. Luke Ritchie (Brandeis)
Round of 8: Won 15-8 vs. Elliot Siegel (Brandeis)
Semifinals: Won 15-7 vs. Benjamin Lee (Vassar)
Final: Won due to medical withdrawal vs. Richard Lin (MIT)
