MIT Women's Swimming and Diving Cruises Past Wellesley, 213-84

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Competing in their home pool for the first time since the Charlie Batterman Relays, the No. 11 MIT women's swimming team cruised to an 213-84 victory over Wellesley College on Friday evening at the Zesiger Sports and Fitness Center pool. Tech finished the meet winning 14 of 16 events.

MIT junior Sarah Osmulski (Rumson, N.J.) finished first in the 200-yard butterfly, earning a NCAA provisional cut with a time of 2.08.51. Sophomore Teresa de Figueiredo (College Station, Texas) placed second in the event with a time of 2.10.76, while classmate Madeleine Severance (Brookfield, Wis.) finished third, clocking a time of 2.12.94.

Sophomore Veronika Jedryka (Arlington Heights, Ill.) captured two events, including the 100-yard and 200-yard backstroke. In the 100-yard backstroke, Jedryka clocked a time of 58.28, while finishing the 200-yard backstroke in 2.06.84. She also helped two relay teams – the 200-yard medley and 200-yard freestyle – place first place in each event with times of 1.47.44 and 1.37.64.

Freshman Jessica Chen (Rockville, Md.) also won two events, finishing first in the 100-yard breaststroke and 200-yard breaststroke. Chen finished the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1.06.08, while finishing the 200-yard breaststroke in 2.24.79.

In the 500 and 1,000-yard freestyles, freshman Mary Thielking (Fishers, Ind.) placed first in both events, registering times of 5.06.44 and 10.38.21. Thielking's classmate – Amanda Wu (Cedar Park, Texas) – also placed first in two events, capturing the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 53.69 and 200-yard IM in 2.09.22.

Wellesley won both diving events, finishing first and second in the 1-meter and 3-meter. Freshman Maura Sticco-Ivins (Framingham, Mass.) finished first in the 1-meter diving with a score of 267.90. She also placed first in the 3-meter by registering 260.70 points.

MIT returns to the pool tomorrow when they host Babson College and Bowdoin College at 1 p.m.
