Jomard Leads Engineers to 69-57 Season Opening Win

- The Lead: In the 2016-2017 season opener, the MIT men's basketball team used a game-high 24 points from sophomore Bradley Jomard (Paris, France) to pull away for a 69-57 win over Bridgewater State University on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

- MIT jumped out to a 13-1 lead to start the game and continued to lead 17-10 with 8:34 left in the first after a basket from BSU's Fawaz Mass. The Engineers put together a 16-0 run over the next five minutes for a 33-10 lead, which was their largest of the game, before taking a 37-17 lead into the halftime break. MIT used 63 percent shooting from the field in the first period to take control of the non-conference contest.

- The Engineers held a 42-30 lead with 13:38 on the clock after another jumper from Mass, but an 11-2 MIT run stretched the advantage back out to 56-35 with 7:32 on the clock.

- The Bears weren't going quietly and answered with a run of their own, capped by a three from Rocky Andrade to pull within six at 57-51 with 2:44 remaining. A Jomard three-pointer with just over two minutes left put the lead back to double figures at 61-51 and the Engineers led by at least nine points over the rest of the game.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Jomard paced four Engineers in double figures with a 24-point, nine-rebound, five-assist effort. Senior captain Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.) and sophomore Dakota Pierce (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) each added 11 points, while sophomore Samuel Bockman (Oceanside, Calif.) posted 10 points and six rebounds off the bench.

- For the Bears, Mass led the team with 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting from the field, while Joseph Carty had 12 points and Keyon Armstrong tallied 11 points off the bench.

- For the game, MIT shot 51.1 percent from the field, 78.3 percent from the free throw line and forced 15 Bridgewater turnovers. In addition, the Engineers held a commanding 37-24 advantage on the boards.
