Men's Basketball Runs Winning Streak to Five Straight

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 89, Emmanuel College 50

- Records: MIT (6-2); Emmanuel College (1-6)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Rockwell Cage)

- The Lead: Led by 63.8 percent shooting from the field and four players in double figures, the MIT men's basketball team won its fifth straight game with an 89-50 home win over Emmanuel College on Tuesday night at Rockwell Cage.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Emmanuel was the team that came out of the gates quickly as the Saints jumped to a 9-4 lead over the first four minutes. The Engineers answered in a big way though, leading by double digits at 23-13 with 8:55 on the clock and then holding an 18-point lead twice in the first half. The last time came with 3:40 left in the period after a layup from sophomore Cameron Korb (Los Gatos, Calif.) before the Saints pulled within 35-23 at the break.

- In the second half, MIT led by at least 20 points over the final 16:50 as the Engineers shot a blistering 75 percent from the field and knocked down 15 free throws over the last 20 minutes. On the defensive end, the Engineers limited the Saints to 27.6 percent shooting in the second half to pull away for the 89-50 victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- For the game, the Engineers had four players finish in double figures as MIT was led by a 21-point effort from senior Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.). Sophomore Dakota Pierce (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) had a double-figure performance for the second straight night with 18 points, while sophomore AJ Jurko (Weston, Fla.) totaled 14 points and eight rebounds and sophomore Tim Roberts (Oak Bluffs, Mass.) added 10 points in 18 minutes off the bench. Korb nearly finished in double figures as well as he had nine points and three assists in 24 minutes of action.

- MIT held a commanding 42-24 rebounding advantage, including 33-12 on the defensive glass. Colin Cordero was the top scorer for Emmanuel with a 12-point effort, while Julian Diggs led the team with three assists.

- MIT returns to action on Thursday, December 8th as the Engineers travel to Rhode Island College for a 7 p.m. start.
