- The Lead: Led by a 15-point, 17-rebound, 10-assist triple-double from sophomore Bradley Jomard (Paris, France), the MIT men's basketball team pulled away in the second half for a commanding 80-55 win over Wheaton College on Wednesday night. The triple-double is only the second in program history and the first since 2002.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wheaton took the early 18-8 advantage as Ryan Fogarty's layup with 12:41 on the clock put the Lyons in front by double digits. MIT answered a 17-4 run over 4:29, capped by a layup from sophomore Samuel Bockman (Oceanside, Calif.), to take the lead by a 25-22 margin. The Engineers eventually took an edge into the break at 34-33 as sophomore AJ Jurko (Weston, Fla.) scored on a layup just before halftime.
- Early in the second half, Fogarty nailed a three for the 36-34 advantage in favor of the Lyons before MIT countered to put the game out of reach. Jomard's dunk made it 68-44 overall as the Engineers had a 34-8 run over 12:05 to help seal the win. Overall in the second half, MIT outscored Wheaton 46-22 for the second period to sweep the season series from the Lyons in the process.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jomard was outstanding with 15 points to go along with career-highs in rebounds with 17 and assists with 10, while Jurko had a seven best showing at 21 points to go along with seven rebounds and eight assists. Senior Tim Butala (Monroe, Conn.) added 11 points as the Engineers held a 44-33 edge in rebounding and 36-23 on the defensive glass.
- Fogarty was the top scorer for Wheaton with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Liam Bruno added 12 points to go along with 10 rebounds and six points by Quinton Dale.
