- The Lead: Led by a by a 30-4 scoring run to start the second half, the MIT men's basketball team ran its winning streak to six straight with a convincing 85-63 road win at Fitchburg State.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- After trailing briefly by a 4-2 margin in the early going, the Engineers quickly built to a double-digit advantage with 8:12 remaining in the first after a three from the corner by freshman Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.). MIT saw its lead cut down to just two at 38-36 with 40 seconds left on a layup off a steal by Tyrell St. John before five late points from sophomore Aidan Einloth (Grayslake, Ill.) gave the Engineers a 43-38 edge at the break. After an easy layup with 20 seconds left in the period, Einloth knocked down a deep three in the final moments of the period for the five-point advantage.
- MIT came out firing in the second half and after a layup from junior Bradley Jomard (Paris, France) at the 9:43 mark, the Engineers led by a 73-42 margin following a 30-4 spurt to start the period. The Engineers led by a comfortable double-digit gap for the final 10 minutes of the contest as freshman Hamilton Forsythe (Weston, Conn.) capped the scoring on a late three-pointer from the wing as the shot clock was expiring for the 85-63 final score.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Forsythe led the Engineers with 23 points in 27 minutes off the bench, while Korb posted 20 points and Jomard added 16 points, six assists and four steals. Korb was excellent from the field again, shooting 6-for-10 that was highlighted by a 5-for-9 outing from three to go along with four rebounds. Einloth also added 15 points as MIT shot 56.9 percent from the field and 52.4 percent from three-point land.
- Jerrell Gomes posted 18 points to lead Fitchburg, along with 15 points and five rebounds from Jonathan Perez and 13 points from Nicholas Tracy.
- The teams were even on the boards at 31 rebounds each, while the Falcons shot 36.5 percent overall and 26.7 percent from deep as MIT outscored FSU 33-12 from three.
- MIT is receiving 38 votes in the latest D3hoops.com National Top 25 Poll, ranked just outside of the Top 25.
