Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 35, Maine Maritime 0

- Records: MIT (6-0, 3-0 NEWMAC); Maine Maritime (0-5, 0-3 NEWMAC)

- Location: Castine, Maine (Ritchie Field)

- The Lead: After jumping out to a quick 14-0 lead in the opening quarter, the MIT football team remained undefeated on the season with a convincing 35-0 road win at the Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday afternoon.

THE ALL-TIME SERIES: MIT now leads the all-time series with Maine Maritime by a 7-0 margin as the first meeting dates back to 2008.

THE WAY IT HAPPENED:

- On MIT's first drive of the game, the Engineers found the end zone on a three-yard touchdown pass to junior Jack Bernatchez (Belgrade, Maine) with 5:12 on the clock. On the ensuing kickoff, the Mariners fumbled and freshman Dennis Gastel (Lincoln, R.I.) recovered at the MMA 20-yard line. Five plays later, senior Miguel Wagner (El Segundo, Calif.) scored from three yards out for the 14-0 advantage.

- Senior Udgam Goyal (Frisco, Texas) continued his outstanding season in the opening minutes of the second as he found sophomore Keithen Shepard (Vancouver, Wash.) up the middle for an 18-yard score. Shepard caught the ball at the three and fought his way across the goal line.

- The Engineers closed out the first-half scoring with 28 seconds left in the half as Goyal found senior Eric Bradford (Dublin, Ohio) inside the left pylon for the 28-0 break. The visitors had regained possession near midfield on an MMA fumble that was forced by senior Dallace Francis (Macon, Ga.).

- The third quarter was a scoreless one as the Engineers blocked a 23-yard field goal in the period and the game remained 28-0 in favor of MIT.

- MIT scored the second rushing touchdown of the day in the fourth as Wagner ran off the left side and in from 27 yards for a 35-0 advantage with 12:04 left.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Goyal was efficient as he completed 15-of-20 passes for 192 yards and three touchdowns, including four completions each to both Bradford and freshman Jack Montinaro (Riverside, Conn.).

- MIT held a 132-44 advantage in rushing yards, led by 83 yards and two touchdowns from Wagner.

- Freshman Sam Gozelski (East Northport, N.Y.) was the top tackler for the Engineers with six stops, while Terrell Thomas led three Mariners with a game-high 15 tackles. Overall, MIT finished the game with six tackles for a loss of 43 yards to go along with three pass breakups.

- The Engineers are the lone 6-0 team in the Northeast and are off to the best start in program history. The top start in MIT history came in 2014 as the Engineers got off to a 10-0 start before falling in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

- For the second straight week, MIT is ranked No. 1 in the Grinold Chapter New England Football Poll and is also now receiving votes in the AFCA Division III Coaches Poll.

UP NEXT:

- Following a bye week, the Engineers return home for an October 20th meeting with the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. That game is scheduled for a Noon kickoff at Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium.
