HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Set 1: After conceding the opening point, MIT raced out to a 16-5 advantage. Wheaton battled back, coming within 19-13 courtesy of a block by Haley McCreight and Emily Hickey. The Engineers responded with a kill by junior Andie Maloney (Manhattan Beach, Calif.), sparking a 6-2 spurt that resulted in set point. Back-to-back Casey Dinga kills along with a hitting error by MIT kept the Lyons alive. However, a kill from sophomore Hannah Grupe (Oakwood, Ohio) thwarted the late rally.

- Set 2: Wheaton inched out to a 7-5 lead, but the Engineers rattled off five unanswered points which fueled a 9-2 run. The Lyons stayed within striking distance as a block by Becca Houghton and McCreight narrowed the gap to 15-12. This was as close as it would get as MIT mounted a 10-2 set-ending run.

- Set 3: After a tight start that saw the Engineers hold a 10-8 edge, a Wheaton hitting error ignited a 15-5 run which helped MIT close out the match.
