THE BASICS:
- Location: Pickard Field (Brunswick, Maine)
- The Lead: Sophomore Izzi Gengaro (Boonton Township, N.J.) captured the 2019 NCAA New England Regional individual championship by a one-second margin as the No. 3 ranked Engineers finished second out of 54 teams with a total of 84 points. MIT had six All-New England performers as the top-35 finishers earned All-Region accolades.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Gengaro crossed in first place out of 380 finishers as she posted a time of 21:19.1 over the six-kilometer course. Junior Katie Collins (Newton, Mass.) placed fifth with a time of 21:28.6, followed in 20th by senior Katie Bacher (Macungie, Pa.) at 22:05.3.
- The fourth Engineer was sophomore Einat Gavish (Newton, Mass.) in 28th at 22:20.4, with the final scoring runner being junior Katie Williams (Papillion, Neb.) in 30th place with a time of 22:23.3. Senior Megan McCandless (Livermore, Calif.) was also an All-New England honoree in 35th place with a final time of 22:31.3. First-year Kirsi Rajagopal (Harrison, N.Y.) closed out the MIT runners at the regional, crossing in 70th place with a time of 23:02.8.

- MIT earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III National Championship as the Engineers will travel to Tom Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky. That race is scheduled for Saturday, November 23rd, with more details coming soon.
