THE BASICS:

- Score: Harvard 84, MIT 27

- The Lead: In exhibition action on Tuesday night, the MIT men's basketball team dropped an 84-27 final to Harvard University at Lavietes Pavilion. The Engineers are coming off the 2019 NEWMAC regular-season championship, while Harvard finished last season 19-12 and advanced to the second round of the NIT.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Crimson jumped out to a double-digit lead over the first nine minutes as a layup from Chris Lewis gave the hosts a 15-4 advantage. Harvard eventually held a 33-10 lead at the half as the Crimson shot 41.4 percent from the field over the first 20 minutes.

- In the second period, the Crimson shot a blistering 71 percent from the field that included 40 percent from three. First-year Tim Kostolansky (Walnut Creek, Calif.) scored six points for the Engineers in the second half as he finished with eight points.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Kostolansky ended the game with eight points and seven rebounds as the Engineers finished with 25 rebounds and 12 steals. First-year Kael Kordonowy (Wichita, Kan.) had a team-high four blocks to go along with two rebounds, one assist and one steal. 

- For Harvard, Chris Ledlum notched a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double to go along with 12 points by Christian Juzang. The Crimson shot 56.7 percent from the field, 35 percent from three and 69.2 percent from the free throw line.

- Defensively, MIT forced 20 Harvard turnovers, including 14 in the first half.

- MIT opens up the 2019-20 regular season on Wednesday, November 13th as the Engineers travel to Endicott College for a 7:30 p.m. start in Beverly, Mass.
