Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 14, University of New England 3

- Records: MIT (2-2); UNE (1-3)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium)

- The Lead: The MIT men's lacrosse team outscored the University of New England, 10-2, in the second half en route to a 14-3 victory on Saturday afternoon. First-year James Santoro (Tewksbury, N.J.) paced the Engineers with five points on four goals and an assist while Alex Zadworny earned three assists for the Nor'easters.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Santoro produced the first goal of the game, coming at the 6:53 mark of the opening quarter. The score remained unchanged until junior Jack Strachan (Moresville, N.C.) registered a man-up goal 2:32 into the second stanza. He then connected on a pass from Santoro with 8:34 on the clock and went on to complete the natural hat trick with 2:45 left on a man-up strike set up by junior Aidan Westley (Palos Verdes, Calif.). UNE ended the shutout 32 seconds later when Zach Bossi connected on a pass from Zadworny, making the score 4-1.

- MIT gradually pulled away in the third quarter as it generated four goals over the course of 5:30, capped by Santoro's man-up marker with 6:06 remaining. Collin Morrow ended the Nor'easters' scoring drought shortly after the faceoff, giving Zadworny his second assist of the day.

- The Engineers controlled the action in the fourth quarter as they outscored UNE, 6-1, fueled by three goals in during a span of 1:04. First-year Jack Montinaro (Riverside, Conn.) gave the Engineers a 9-2 lead just 1:51 into the final frame and then sophomore Luke Gianni (Henderson, Nev.) won the ensuing faceoff and found the back of the net. Senior Jake Stein's (Vienna, Va.) unassisted blast capped the run as Mitch Mullin generated what proved to be the Nor'easters' final goal of the day with 11:35 on the clock. Sophomore Hayden Stalter (Greenwich, N.Y.), first-year Liam Miller (Pasadena, Calif.), and Santoro wrapped up the scoring.
