Football Earns 13-6 Road Win at Becker on Friday Night

Box Score

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT 13, Becker College 6

- Records: MIT (1-1); Becker College (2-1)

- Location: Leicester, Mass. (Alumni Field)

- The Lead: Led by two touchdown passes from senior Chris Mauck (Wellington, Fla.) and 96 rushing yards by senior John Robertson (Brentwood, Tenn.), the MIT football team evened its record at 1-1 on the season with a 13-6 road victory over Becker College on Friday night.

THE WAY IT HAPPENED:

- MIT got on the board in the first as Robertson went 50 yards up the far sideline to give the Engineers first and goal at the one-yard line. Pushed back to the three, Mauck lofted the ball up into the corner of the end zone and sophomore Dennis Gastel (Lincoln, R.I.) went up and over the defender for the touchdown. The score was 6-0 after the extra point attempt by junior Mark Wright (Fort Worth, Texas) hit the upright.

- The Hawks nearly got on the scoreboard early in the second before the MIT defense came up big with a blocked 28-yard field goal as the game headed into halftime at 6-0 in favor of the Engineers.

- Midway through the third, junior Keithen Shepard (Vancouver, Wash.) pulled down a reception on a third down and nine play and fought through two tacklers and into the end zone for a 16-yard scoring play and the 13-0 MIT advantage.

- The Hawks got on the board with 10:02 left in the third as Christian Perkins hauled in a pass from Mac Kimball along the near sideline and kept his feet inbounds before racing 51 yards up the sideline to make it a 13-6. The Hawks went for two and that attempt off the left side of the line was shut down by the MIT defense to keep the lead at seven.

- The Engineer defense forced a turnover on downs at midfield with 3:02 remaining and picked up a key first down to run the clock out. The Hawks were out of timeouts at the time after using all three of their second-half timeouts in the final minutes of the third quarter.
