THE BASICS:
- Location: Williamstown, Mass.
- The Lead: In the season-opening Purple Valley Classic on Saturday afternoon, the No. 10 ranked MIT men's cross country team placed second overall out of 19 teams with a total of 56 points. The Engineers competed against No. 2 Williams, No. 16 RPI, No. 22 Middlebury and No. 34 Connecticut College.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Sophomore Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) finished fourth with a time of 26:39.2, while first-years Sanjay Raman (Seattle, Wash.) and Cameron Kleiman (Austin, Texas) were both in the top 10 at fifth and sixth place, respectively. Raman crossed in a time of 26:39.7, followed by Kleiman in 26:47.8. Overall, the top five scorers had a spread of 39 seconds.
- First-year Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) finished 19th in 27:14 as the final four MIT runners in the top seven were within a seven-second span. First-year Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) crossed in 23rd at 27:18.8, followed by first-year Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) in 25th at 27:19.5 and senior Steven Goldy (Centennial, Colo.) in 28th in a time of 27:21.5.

- MIT returns to action on Saturday, October 5th as the Engineers travel to Louisville, Ky. for the Greater Louisville Classic. The course at Tom Sawyer Park will host the NCAA Division III National Championship on November 23rd.
