- The Lead: Led by a fifth-place finish from senior
Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) and six runners in the top 20, the No. 5 ranked MIT men's cross country team captured the 2021 Live in Lou Cross Country Invitational title with a total of 46 points. The Engineers finished 89 points ahead of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a meet that featured eight nationally-ranked programs. In November, the course will host the 2021 NCAA Division III National Championship.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Engineers ran as a pack throughout much of the race, separated by a matter of seconds through the 3.9-kilometer mark. In the end, Mah surged to the fifth-place finish as he crossed in a time of 24:30.8 over the eight-kilometer course.

- Junior
Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) crossed in eighth in a time of 24:38.7, followed immediately by junior
Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) in ninth at 24:40.3. Junior
Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) placed 11th in 24:41.9, along with graduate student
Finn Jacobson-Schulte (Lakeville, Minn.) in 13th at 24:50.8 to round out the top five.

Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) placed 19th in a time of 24:58.2, while senior
Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.) was 22nd in 25:01.8 and junior All-American
Sanjay Raman (Seattle, Wash.) was the final MIT runner in 33rd place as he crossed in 25:22.5.

- Overall, the top five MIT runners were separated by a margin of just 20 seconds.
