Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Novoa's OT Score Lifts No.17 MIT Over Brandeis

The Engineers Notched Their Seventh Shutout of the Year

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 17 MIT – 1 , Brandeis – 0 (2 OT)

- Records: MIT (9-2-1, 2-0-1 NEWMAC); Brandeis (3-5-2, 0-0-1 UAA)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium)

- The Lead: It took over 100 minutes for a goal to be scored, but when it was it was by the No. 17 MIT men's soccer team as Peter Novoa's goal in the 104-minute game gave the Engineers the thrilling overtime victory over Brandeis on Wednesday night.
  HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Neither team was able to produce much offense in the first 45 minutes of action as there were a total of seven shots with only one on goal between the two teams.

- Graduate student Loukas Carayannopoulos (Westfield, N.J.) had two excellent scoring chances for the Engineers in the half, but both of his shots sailed just high of the goal.

- With time winding down in the half, senior Peter Novoa (Omaha, Neb) sent a shot on goal, but it was turned away by Judges' keeper Aiden Guthro to keep the match scoreless.

- The second half was more of the same with neither team able to get the ball in the back of the cage, as the teams would need extra time to decide a winner.

- After a scoreless 10 minutes of the first overtime, the Engineers came out strong in the second overtime, and it didn't take long for senior Noah Faro to send a cross-field pass to Novoa who headed the ball into the back of the net at 103:49 to give MIT the thrilling overtime win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- This win marks the MIT win over the Judges since 2010.

- Paarth Desai (Lawrenceville, Ga.) earned the win in net, improving to 5-2-0 this season with four shutouts.

- Today's win is the seventh shutout of the season for MIT.
