No. 17 Men's Soccer Defeats Emerson, 4-2

MIT Scored All Four Goals In The First Half

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 17 MIT – 4, Emerson – 2

- Records: MIT (10-2-1, 3-0-1 NEWMAC); Emerson (2-8-1, 0-4-0 NEWMAC)

- Location: Boston, Mass. (Rotch Field)

- The Lead: The 17th-ranked MIT men's soccer team extended its conference unbeaten streak as the Engineers defeated Emerson, 4-2, on the road on Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- MIT got the scoring early, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead just 15 minutes into the match. Junior Richter Brzeski (Los Angeles, Calif.) scored the first Engineer goal in the second minute, taking a pass from senior Peter Novoa (Omaha, Neb.) and putting the ball into the back of the net at 2:46.

- Shortly after, at 3:06 junior Rami Bikdash (Oak Ridge, N.C.) took a shot from the top of the box that got past the Emerson keeper to make it a 2-0 game.

- Brzeksi notched his second score of the afternoon at 15:42 on a free kick attempt.

- Emerson got on the board in the 27th minute as RJ Dziejma took advantage of an MIT turnover and fired a shot from the top of the box that to cut the Engineer lead to 3-1.

- The Engineers responded at 39:52 when senior Sebastian Simon (Detroit, Mich.) scored an impressive goal off a rebound by the Lions netminder to increase the MIT lead to 4-1.

- The Lions cut the MIT lead in half with a Phil Han goal off a Dziejma pass at 85:50, but the Engineers would hold on for the 4-2 win.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- MIT is 11-2-0 all-time against the Lions.
 
- This is the first time the Engineers have registered double-digit wins since 2015 when the team finished 18-3-1.

-  Sophomore Lucas Hanson-Puffer (London, England) earned the win in net, making four saves on the day for his second win of the year.

- The Engineers out-shot the Lions, 26-9.

UP NEXT:

- MIT remains on the road as the team will head to Wheaton College for another key NEWMAC contest on Saturday, October 16. The match is slated to being at 2 p.m.
