- The Lead: Led by six runners placing among the top nine finishers overall, the No. 3 ranked MIT men's cross country team claimed the 2021 NCAA East Regional Championship with an incredible score of 23 points on Saturday morning. The Engineers defeated 32 other regional opponents en route to the title and the automatic berth in the NCAA National Championship meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- With the top five scoring runners separated by less than four seconds, junior
Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) paced the squad as the overall runner-up in a time of 25:37.2. Graduate student
Finn Jacobson-Schulte (Lakeville, Minn.) finished third at 25:40, while junior
Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas), graduate student
Reid Kovacs (Palo Alto, Calif.) and junior
Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) took home the fifth, sixth and seventh spots. Kearney ran a time of 25:40.6, which was matched by Kovacs with Acquaviva just .4 back of that.

Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) crossed in ninth with a final time of 25:49.7, while junior
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) finished 17th in 26:17.8 as all seven runners for MIT earned USTFCCCA All-Region accolades.
