The Lead: In a rematch of the 2019 championship game, the nationally-ranked No. 8 and No. 1 seed MIT women's soccer team took down No. 5 WPI, 3-0 on Thursday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior
Karenna Groff (Weston, Mass.) put MIT up 1-0 early, taking a pass from sophomore
Meagan Rowlett (Dana Point, Calif.) and placing a beautiful shot into the corner of the goal at 8:22.
- Shortly later at 12:57, Rowlett set up first-year
Ashley English (Sheboygan, Wisc.) for her second goal of the year as English took the Rowlett pass and laced the ball into the corner of the net to give the Engineers a 2-0 advantage.
- Rowlett got herself a goal at 50:13 as Groff sent a touch pass down the sideline to Rowlett who one-touched the ball into the back of the net to give MIT a 3-0 lead.
- The three goals were more than enough for MIT as the Engineers secured their 15
th shutout of the year to advance to Saturday's championship game. Â
