Balanced Scoring Powers Men's Basketball Past Fitchburg State, 92-66

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT 92, Fitchburg State 66

- The Lead: Led by five players in double figures, the MIT men's basketball team improved to 4-1 at home and 6-3 overall with a commanding 92-66 victory over Fitchburg State University. The game marked the team's final home game of the fall semester.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- After a 1-0 Fitchburg lead in the opening seconds, the Engineers took control for the rest of the way as the team led by double digits at 13-1 following a three from senior Ian Hinkley (Raleigh, N.C.) just 4:11 into the game. The Falcons cut the lead down to seven at 16-9 midway through the half, but the Engineers answered with an emphatic run.
 
- MIT held a 39-17 advantage after a three from senior Julian Manyika (San Francisco, Calif.) and led by at least 15 points over the remainder of the half, taking a 48-32 lead into halftime after FSU's Brendan Dion hit a three at the buzzer to end the period.
 
- The Engineers dominated the second half, building to a 31-point lead at 76-45 with 8:51 on the clock. MIT led by at least 24 over the rest of the game as the team improved to 8-0 all-time vs. the Falcons.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- Hinkley led all scorers with 21 points as he was 6-of-11 from three-point land. He nearly posted a double-double with nine rebounds while also adding six assists and three blocks. Senior Dan Pilsbury (Millington, N.J.) was 8-of-11 from the field for 16 points to go along with five rebounds, eight assists and three steals.
 
- Junior Alex Cho (San Diego, Calif.) nearly finished with a quadruple-double as he posted 14 points, eight rebounds, eight assists and nine steals. Manyika picked up 10 points off the bench as he was 4-of-4 from the field in 18 minutes of play.
 
- Kerns Monvilus and Frederick Siayor led the Falcons in scoring with 11 points each, while Quincy Taylor paced the team with nine rebounds.
 
- MIT shot 53 percent from the field while holding Fitchburg to just 37.9 percent shooting from the field and 58.3 percent from the line. The Engineers turned 23 FSU turnovers into 28 points at the other end and also held a 39-32 rebounding advantage. As a team, MIT finished with 26 assists on 35 made field goals.
