MIT Defeats Suffolk, 5-0

The Engineers had five different goal scorers in the match

THE BASICS:

- Score: MIT - 5 , Suffolk - 0

- Records: MIT (3-1-0); Suffolk  (2-3-0)

- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field at Steinbrenner Stadium)

- The Lead: The MIT Engineers rebounded from a tough loss on Tuesday against top-ranked Tufts for a decisive 5-0 victory over Suffolk on Saturday afternoon. The Engineers had five different goal scorers in the match as the defense provided its third shutout of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the 14th minute, John Flynn (Ashburn, Va.) got the Engineers on the board with a beautiful sliding goal. Aidan Hallinan (Carlsbad, Calif.) sent a pass into the box for Flynn who slid and knocked the ball past Suffolk keeper, Figueroa Serrano for the score at 14:03.

- Just over six minutes later at 20:50, Garrett Robinson (Winfield, Ill.) corralled the ball off a deflection by the Rams and put the ball into the back of the net to give MIT a 2-0 lead.

- A save by Serrno off a Hendrik Mayer (Montville, N.J.)  free kick turned into another MIT goal as James Simon (Ann Arbor, Mich) found the rebound and put it past Serrno at 27:32.

- The defense for both squads tightened up as neither was able to get much offense going in the remainder of the first half or for the majority of the second half.

- The scoring returned for MIT at 80:34 as Alex Weiler (Portland, Ore) recovered the ball in a scramble and knocked it into the far corner past a diving Murad Kup in net to make it 4-0.

- The fifth and final Engineer goal of the afternoon was scored by Noah Faro (Rexford, N.Y.) who got the ball in front of the net and knocked it in for the score.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
