Â
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Â
-
Set 1: Trailing 11-6, a kill by sophomore
Allison Brattley (Fleetwood, Pa.) sparked a 9-1 run. MIT maintained a small cushion until four straight points by Wellesley gave it a 22-21 edge. A kill from first-year
Ella Gragg (Morganton, N.C.) coupled with a hitting error put the Engineers back in front. An exchange of points ensued until a kill by junior
Lilly Edwards (Kansas City, Mo.) and a block by Brattley and senior
Annie Bryan (Kirkwood, Mo.) gave MIT the 26-24 win.
Â
-
Set 2: Four unanswered points by the Blue resulted in a 19-16 lead. The Engineers responded with an 8-1 run that resulted in set point. A serving error and a kill extended the frame for the hosts, however, a kill from Edwards clinched the 25-22 victory.
Â
-
Set 3: Tied at seven, Wellesley recorded five of the next six points. MIT replied with a kill from Bryan, which ignited a string of seven unanswered points that fueled a 16-4 run and gave the visitors match point (24-16). Two kills and a hitting error kept the Blue alive, but an Edwards kill secured the win.
