Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Drops First Game of the Season to No.1 Tufts in OT, 1-0

The Engineers are now 2-1 on the year.

THE BASICS:

- Score: No. 1 Tufts - 1, MIT – 0 (OT)

- Records: MIT (2-1-0); No. 1 Tufts (1-0-0)

- Location: Medford, Mass. (Bello)

- The Lead:  The MIT Engineers gave top-ranked Tufts all they could handle as MIT took the Jumbos into overtime on Tuesday evening, however, Tufts pulled through with the game-winning score in overtime to give MIT its first loss of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Jumbos looked to score early and often in their opening game of the season, but the Engineer defense was ready as MIT stifled many potential scoring opportunities by the Jumbos.

- MIT goalkeeper, Paarth Desai (Lawrenceville, Ga.) made some excellent saves early in the first half, including a diving save off a hard shot by Sean Traynor.

- James Simon (Ann Arrbor, Mich.) had an excellent opportunity to give MIT the lead, but his shot went just wide of the goal.

- Neither team could muster up much offense in the second half as the teams headed to overtime with the score tied up at zero and in the 98th minute of play the scoreless tie was broken by a Tufts' goal off the foot of Traynor to give the Jumbos a 1-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Desai made seven saves in goal for MIT.

- Tufts held a slight advantage in shots (14-11) and corner kicks (4-3).

UP NEXT:

- MIT returns home to Cambridge as the Engineers will host Suffolk University for a 1:30 p.m. contest on Saturday, September 11th.
