The Lead: Over the weekend, the MIT sailing team competed in the Open Atlantic Coast Championship and the Stu Nelson Trophy. At the ACC, the Engineers finished fourth to qualify for the AAC Championships.
OPEN ATLANTIC COAST DINGHY CHAMPIONSHIPS ROUND 1B | St. Mary's, Md. | 4th of 18 (252 points)
- In the 'A' Division, the MIT boat of junior
Sam Bruce (Severna Park, Md.), sophomore
Nicholas Abate (Kemah, Texas), and graduate student
Maaya Prasad (Yorktown, Va.) finished eighth with 136 points. They earned six top-five finishes and one victory.
- Graduate student
Dana Haig (Beach Haven, N.J.), sophomore
Shayne Bersin (Port Washington, N.Y.), and senior
Grace Mao (Overland Park, Kan.) finished sixth in the 'B' Division with 116 points. They finished with five top-three finishes with one win.
STU NELSON TROPHY | NEW LONDON, CONN. | 5th of 13 (198 points)
- The Engineers totaled 70 points in the 'A' Division to finish third. Sophomore
Lucy Brock (Austin, Texas) and junior
Jemma Schroder (Menlo Park, Calif.) steered the boat to two wins.
- In the 'B' Division, sophomores
Brooke Schmelz (Monmouth Beach, N.J.) and
Samantha Karlson (Groton, Conn.) finished in second with 51 points and earned seven top-two finishes.
- Senior
Emily Scherer (Oshkosh, Wis.) and sophomore
Yitian Zhu (Katy, Texas) guided the MIT boat to a sixth-place finish in the 'C' Division with 77 points and six top-five finished with one victory.
