THE BASICS:
- Location: Waterford, Conn. (Harkness Park)
- The Lead: Finishing with a total of 45 points, the No. 2 ranked MIT men's cross country team earned the overall team title at the Connecticut College Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Harkness Park. With all five scoring runners within the top 16 finishers, the Engineers defeated No. 9 ranked Williams College by a 33-point margin in the 23-team field.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior
Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) was the top runner for MIT as he crossed in third place with a time of 24:10.50. Senior
Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) was right behind him in fourth at 24:13.30, along with senior
Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) in 10th place at 24:20.50. Senior
Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) crossed in 12th place at 24:27.70 and the final scorer was graduate student
Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.) with a time of 24:51.60 as he tied for 16th.
- Senior
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) and junior
Jacob Hansen (Bountiful, Utah) rounded out the top seven for the Engineers in 23rd and 27th places as they ran times of 24:58.20 and 25:00.30, respectively.
UP NEXT:
- MIT returns to action on Sunday, October 30th as the Engineers travel to Highland Park in Attleboro, Mass. for the 2022 NEWMAC Championship. MIT will be looking for its 24th straight conference title as the Engineers remain the only program in league history to win the NEWMAC men's cross country championship.
