Second Half Surge Gives Engineers a 4-2 Win Over Worcester St.

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: MIT - 4, Worcester St. - 2
 
- Records: MIT (8-6-0), Worcester St. (6-3-5)
 
- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field)
 
- The Lead: After falling behind 1-0, the MIT men's soccer team erupted for four goals in the second half, including two from senior Hendrik Mayer (Montville, N.J.) to defeat Worcester St., 4-2.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- Worcester St. got on the board first when Wilber Garcia intercepted a pass in the midfield and laced a shot past the diving Zachary Zhang (Bellevue, Wash.) at 20:39.
 
- The Engineers began their comeback with a free kick goal from Mayer to tie the match in the 61st minute.
 
- The match remained tied until the two teams scored four goals in a span of seven minutes. Senior Will Seiple (Boulder, Colo.) broke the scoreless tie at 82:35 when he broke through the Lancers' defense and buried the ball into the back of the net.
 
- Almost exactly a minute later, junior Aidan Hallinan (Carlsbad, Calif.) sent a pass into the front of the goal to junior Garrett Robinson (Winfield, Ill.) who got past his defender and gave MIT a 3-1 lead at 83:38.
 
- Luke-Mark Anu sent a cross-pass to Waseem Mahmoud who put the ball past a diving Zhang to cut the MIT lead to one with two minutes remaining.
 
- With time ticking down in the game, Mayer stepped up and converted on his second free kick of the evening to seal the 4-2 win for the Engineers.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- MIT held the advantage in shots (17-3), shots on goal (10-2), and corner kicks (4-1).
 
- Robinson is now tied for the team lead in goals (5) and points (11).
 
- The two goals from Mayer were his first of the year.
 
- Hallinan ranks third on the Engineers with eight points.
 
- Zhang did not record any saves in the game to record his second win of the year.
 
UP NEXT:
 
- MIT remains home as the Engineers will host No. 18 Babson on Saturday, October 22nd at 4 p.m. for Senior Day.
