Men's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Setback to Babson

THE BASICS:
 
- Score: No. 18 Babson - 1, MIT - 0
 
- Records: MIT (8-7-0, 4-2-0 NEWMAC), Babson (11-3-2, 6-0-0 NEWMAC)
 
- Location: Cambridge, Mass. (Roberts Field)
 
- The Lead: The MIT men's soccer team dropped a tough 1-0 decision to No. 18 Babson on Saturday afternoon on Roberts Field.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
 
- The teams played a physical and exciting first half of soccer, but no team found the back of the net. Senior Will Seiple (Boulder, Colo.) had a chance to put MIT up early in the half, but his shot was denied by Walker White.
 
- Junior Garrett Robinson (Winfield, Ill.) put a shot on goal at 33:47 and his shot was turned away by White.
 
- Ben Williams put a shot on goal at 73:52, and the rebound came right back to him as he sent the ball back to the incoming Ross Shellow who broke the scoreless tie with the score at 74:02.
 
- Robinson had another great opportunity to tie the match, however, his shot sailed high over the crossbar. Senior Hendrik Mayer (Montville, N.J.) had a chance to tie the match in the final minutes, but his shot also went wide of the goal.
 
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
 
- MIT honored its senior class of Paarth Desai, Hendrik Mayer, Nick Ciepley, Rami Bikdash, John Flynn, Adam Snowdon, Will Seiple, Richter Brzeski, and Alex Weiler.
 
- Desai made four saves goal for MIT and White made five.
 
- MIT held a 12-10 advantage in shots, while the Beavers had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
 
UP NEXT:
 
- The Engineers will conclude the regular season on Saturday, October 29th when they head to Worcester, Mass. to take on WPI for a 1:00 p.m. contest.
