THE BASICS:
- Location: Attleboro, Mass. (Mark Coogan Cross Country Course at Highland Park)
- The Lead: On Saturday afternoon, the No. 2 ranked MIT men's cross country team claimed the program's 24th straight NEWMAC Championship with a 46-point victory over runner-up WPI. The Engineers, who finished a perfect score of 15 points, are the only school in NEWMAC history to win the league's men's cross country title. Overall, eight Engineers finished in the top 10, as well as 11 of the top 15.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Senior
Sam Acquaviva (Newburyport, Mass.) claimed the NEWMAC individual title and NEWMAC Athlete of the Year honors as he crossed in a time of 24:24.6. Graduate student
Ryan Wilson (Redwood City, Calif.), the 2021 NEWMAC Athlete of the Year, finished second in 24:30, while senior
Lowell Hensgen (Raleigh, N.C.) was third in a time of 24:46.5. Senior
Matthew Kearney (Austin, Texas) was fourth in 24:48, along with 2019 NEWMAC Athlete of the Year
Andrew Mah (Newton, Mass.) in fifth with a time of 24:52.6.
- Senior
Vedang Lad (Plainsboro, N.J.) crossed in sixth place in 24:57.3, while junior
Henry Hardart (Annapolis, Md.) was eighth in 25:19 and junior
Cameron Kleiman (Austin, Texas) in ninth in 25:21.7.
- Also earning All-Conference honors was junior
Jacob Hansen (Bountiful, Utah) in 11th at 25:25.8, sophomore
Pablo Arroyo (Richardson, Texas) in 12th at 25:32.2 and first-year
Jake Cobb (West Deptford, N.J.) in 13th in a time of 25:37.3. Cobb was named as the NEWMAC Rookie of the Year, making him the 21st MIT runner overall and 12th straight to earn Rookie of the Year accolades.
- Junior
Raymond Brookman (Santa Cruz, Calif.) crossed in 16th with a time of 26:06.1, with junior
Nate Sesti (Clarkston, Mich.) in 19th at 26:19.3 and sophomore
Carlos Villa (Gurnee, Ill.) in 21st in 26:29.1. Sophomore
Simon Opsahl (Redlands, Calif) finished 28th in 27:11.1, followed by first-year
Jared Steins (Chino Hills, Calif.) in 30th at 27:22.2, sophomore
Ziyad Hassan (Ashburn, Va.) in 41st at 27:38.3 and first-year
Charlie Glass (Austin, Texas) in 44th with a time of 27:43.8. First-year
Gordon Su (Slingersland, N.Y.) finished in 51st in a time of 28:12.2, with sophomore
Pau Ilerbaig-Bajona (Toronto, Canada) in 60th at 29:04.

- MIT returns to action on Saturday, November 12th as the team travels to Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine for the NCAA New England Regional Championship. The men's race is set to begin at Noon.
