- Records: No. 11 MIT (16-5); No. 2 Middlebury (18-1)

- Location: Middlebury, Vt. (Kohn Field)

- The Lead: No. 2 Middlebury College scored almost three minutes into the game and never looked back as it went on to defeat No. 11 MIT, 8-0, in the second round of the NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship Tournament on Saturday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Middlebury generated three goals during the first nine minutes of the first quarter and then added three more, including a penalty stroke, during the first seven minutes of the second quarter.

- MIT's best offensive opportunities of the first half came during the final five minutes of the second stanza. Sophomore Alice Zehner (Gladwyne, Pa.) sent a strike from just inside the far side of the circle but it was kicked away by goalie Grace Harlan. On a penalty corner with 2:17 on the clock, sophomore Jordan Dattero (East Setauket, N.Y.) and sophomore Eva Oppenheim (Larkspur, Calif.) both put shots on goal but Harlan came up with the saves. The Engineers' earned another penalty corner a minute later, however, Middlebury's defense thwarted any potential attempts at net.

- In the 37th minute, sophomore Avani Narula (Malvern, Pa.) recorded a defensive save when she tapped a high arcing shot backwards over the cage. However, the Panthers registered a pair of goals in a span of a minute to increase their advantage to 8-0. MIT earned a penalty corner with 59 seconds remaining, but a shot by sophomore Ashley Lederman (Villanova, Pa.) was just wide of the cage.

- In the fourth quarter, Middlebury had a 4-0 advantage in shots, including one on goal, and a 5-1 margin in penalty corners. However, the Engineers held the Panthers scoreless during final 15 minutes of the game.

- This was the third meeting between both programs and the first in the NCAA Tournament. Middlebury won the regular-season match-ups in 2012 and 2013.
