HOW IT HAPPENED – MATCH ONE vs. No. 2 Vassar:

- Set 1: With the match tied at six, the Brewers scored five of the next six points to take an 11-7 advantage. The Engineers held strong but were unable to tie the set as a 5-1 run gave Vassar a 20-14 lead. Out of an MIT timeout, junior Dylan Ryan (Oviedo, Fla.) made it a 20-15 set and junior Jack Yurkanin (New Lenox, Ill.) followed with an ace, however, the Brewers held onto the lead and took set one, 25-18.

- Set 2: Vassar took control early, jumping out to a 10-4 lead. They then used an 8-2 run to take an 18-6 lead and took set two, 25-13.

- Set 3: The third set featured 10 ties and five lead changes with Vassar taking an 11-7 lead before a 4-0 run tied the match and forced a Brewers timeout. Out of the timeout back-to-back Vassar errors gave the Engineers a 13-11 advantage. A kill from first-year Grant Oh (Irvine, Calif.) and a block from Yurkanin and Ryan put MIT up 19-17 and forced another Brewers' timeout. Vassar slowly pulled into the lead, using an 8-3 run to take the set 25-22.

- Yurkanin led MIT with 10 kills while G. Oh added seven.

- First-year Riley Oh (Irvine, Calif.) tallied 22 assists in the match.

HOW IT HAPPENED – MATCH TWO vs. Elms:

- Set 1: With the match tied at five, MIT used a 10-4 run, punctuated by a kill from Yurkanin to take a 15-9 lead and force an Elms timeout. Three kills from sophomore Phillip Johnson (Chandler, Ariz.) helped the Engineers build an 18-10 lead and back-to-back kills from senior Bradley Albright (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) gave the Engineers the 25-15 set win.

- Set 2: MIT raced out to a 16-4 lead with a kill from junior Brett Allen (San Jose, Calif.) that put the Engineers up 12. Back-to-back aces from Allen and a kill from Yurkanin gave MIT a 22-9 lead as the Engineers cruised to a 25-13 set two win.

- Set 3: The third set was a back-and-forth affair that featured 19 ties and eight lead changes. A kill from Allen gave MIT match point but the Blazers got back-to-back kills to take a 25-24 lead and an attacking error gave them the 26-24 set win.

- Set 4: After an ace from Elms made it a 9-7 contest, the Engineers used a 6-2 to pull ahead 15-9. Elms would be unable to cut into the lead as MIT went on to take the fourth set 25-15.
