- The Lead: Led by a school-record performance in the long jump by junior
Kenneth Wei (Mt. Sinai, N.Y.), the No. 4 ranked MIT men's track and field team competed at the Springfield Triangle Classic on Saturday. Overall, the Engineers picked up five event wins in the meet.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- In the long jump, Wei broke his own long jump school record by 3.25 inches as he posted a leap of 24 feet, 2.25 inches to rank third nationally. He also earned the victory in the triple jump with a distance of 43 feet, 11.25 inches.

- Senior
Nathan Basinger (Dalton, Ohio) earned his fourth win of the season in the shot put and his third win of the year in the weight throw (as well as a PR). He posted a throw of 48 feet, 7.25 inches in the shot and a throw of 55 feet, seven inches in the weight throw. In the shot put, first-year
Sam Engebretson (Sioux Falls, S.D.) finished second with a throw of 48 feet, four inches and senior
William Woltmann (Secaucus, N.J.) followed him in third at 47 feet, 7.25 inches. The two reversed spots in the weight throw as Woltmann placed third at 51 feet, 0.25 and Engebretson was fourth with a throw of 49 feet, 8.25 inches.

- MIT had three finishers in the top three of the pole vault as first-year
Luka Srsic (Worthington, Ohio) tied for the win with a clearance of 15 feet, five inches. Senior
Max Hardy (Houston, Texas) and junior
Bryan Sperry (San Diego, Calif.) each cleared 14 feet, 7.25 inches to tie for third.

- In the high jump, sophomore
Spencer Yandrofski (Chapel Hill, N.C.) cleared six feet, 4.25 inches to finish third as
Steven Marquez posted a height of six feet, 0.75 inches to place fifth. First-year
Andrew Spears (Albuquerque, N.M.) crossed in second in the 400 meters in 53.83 seconds, while sophomore
Garrett Whitmore (Webster City, Iowa) placed third in the 200 with a time of 23.42 seconds.
